(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (Webometrics), an institution that ranks universities worldwide, announced the rankings of universities worldwide in January 2023. Webometrics is an international ranking system that evaluates the impact of website content and research publications on universities worldwide.

Webometrics is the most popular ranking system for universities compared to other ranking systems. The aim of this ranking is to improve the competitiveness, presence, and role of universities through the publication of scientific research and academic publications. Thus, the knowledge present in universities can be beneficial to society and transparent as scientific sources.

Webometrics Ranking Methodology

There are three parameters used in the Webometrics ranking:

Visibility (Web Content Impact) – Weightage: 50% Webometrics Visibility is assessed based on the number of links that refer to the institution, which are considered to originate from sources other than the institution itself. These include links from other websites or different subnets/networks. For example, if a URL from the stiba.ac.id website is referenced by a government agency’s website or another university’s website.

Transparency/Openness – Weightage: 10% Webometrics Transparency is evaluated based on the number of citations of public profiles. In this case, it mainly focuses on the individual public profiles within the institution. The tool used by the team is Google Scholar Profiles.

Excellence/Scholar (Top Citation Papers) – Weightage: 40% Webometrics Excellence is an indicator that assesses the number of papers among the top 10% most cited in 27 academic disciplines. The data collected for this indicator is from the five-year period of 2015-2019. The tool used by the evaluators is Scimago, a website for online journal ranking. While visibility relies on website content, Transparency and Excellence depend on paper files, journals, and other published writings in document format.
