The Treatise of a Believer Fighter: Message from Ustaz Zaitun Rasmin in an Academic Oration at STIBA Makassar

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Chairman of the Central Board of Wahdah Islamiyah Dr. K.H. Muhammad Zaitun Rasmin, M.A. delivered a speech and an academic oration at the 6th STIBA Makassar Graduation Ceremony on Sunday (August 20, 2023). Ustaz Zaitun expressed his gratitude to those who have contributed to the development of STIBA Makassar.

In his academic oration, Ustaz Zaitun Rasmin talked about “Risalatul Mu’min al-Mushlih” (The Epistle of a Believer and a Fighter). He spoke about the importance of faith in a Muslim’s life and explained the Quranic verses emphasizing faith in Allah and His Messenger.

The Chairman of the Southeast Asian Ulama and Duat Association also emphasized the importance of striving in Islam to uphold the truth and teachings of Islam. According to him, the purpose of this struggle is to glorify the symbols of Allah and implement Islamic teachings in the daily lives of society.

Striving to realize the truth is a humanitarian struggle aimed at making human life full of blessings and happiness. Security and the fulfillment of basic needs are also the results of this struggle, as mentioned by Allah in the closing verses of Surah Quraisy.

“When truth is established, peace is achieved. And this has been alluded to by Allah in Surah Quraisy, ‘He fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear,’” said Ustaz Zaitun.

Prophet Muhammad and his companions serve as clear examples of those who fought for the truth. This struggle will result in security and prosperity for society.

Ustaz Zaitun added to his explanation that the epistle discusses the importance of struggling in religion with one’s wealth and oneself. In Islam, the struggle for truth requires the sacrifice of wealth. Prophet Muhammad and his companions have taught the importance of fighting with wealth for education and propagation.

Historical examples show that those who spend their wealth for the sake of Allah are rewarded by Him. Even if there is a possibility of a shortage of wealth, they continue to spend with faith in Allah. There are concrete examples from history of those who left everything behind and were given even more in return. It is important to understand that happiness is not based on wealth but on charity.

Furthermore, Ustaz Zaitun also elaborated on the importance of striving for goodness and upholding the truth. In the struggle, one needs to set a good example and invite others to do good. “Da’wah bil hal,” which means setting an example through actions, is considered an effective form of struggle. The role of scholars in upholding the truth is also emphasized, and this struggle should start with knowledge and an invitation to knowledge and truth.

In concluding his oration, the Deputy Secretary of the MUI Advisory Council conveyed the message that life is not for oneself but for the benefit of others. He quoted the statement of the first Chairman of the MUI, Buya HAMKA (may Allah have mercy on him):

“If life is just for living, then wild boars in the forest are also alive. If life is just for working, then monkeys in the forest also work.”

“Set a determination within ourselves. We don’t want to live just for the sake of living, work just for the sake of working to get a little bit of this world, a house and a car, and then get married and have children. It’s not just that, but how to live a life that benefits others, our community, our nation, and our country,” he emphasized.

Finally, Ustaz Zaitun quoted the statement of Sheikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him):

“Whoever lives for himself lives as a small person.

Whoever lives for others lives as a great person.

And whoever lives for the nation lives as an honorable person.”

This is what must be done to strive for the truth and give to the community and the nation. If done in large numbers, the country will progress. Ustaz Zaitun entrusted the alumni and students of STIBA Makassar to make this their goal. The ultimate goal is to realize a prosperous, just, and prosperous Indonesia.

Secretary of Kopertais Region VIII: STIBA Makassar is One of the Healthiest Higher Education Institutions in Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The warm atmosphere at the 6th Graduation Ceremony of STIBA Makassar was heightened by the address from the Secretary of Kopertais Region VIII, Dr. K.H. Nur Taufiq Sanusi Baco, M.Ag. In his speech, Kiai Nur Taufiq expressed his appreciation for the excellence of STIBA Makassar and provided an inspiring perspective for the future of this institution.

“Alhamdulillah, STIBA is one of the 70 higher education institutions in Region VIII, which covers Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, that we consider to be the healthiest higher education institution,” he said, greeted by the cheers of the attendees who filled the Aula Gedung Aisyah at the Women’s Campus of STIBA Makassar on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Kiai Nur had good reasons to bestow this accolade upon STIBA Makassar because the institution has never faced any problems until now.

However, he expressed regret that STIBA Makassar still holds the status of a college.

“I hope that this will be the last time I attend an STIBA graduation where the graduation is led by the chairman. Hopefully, the next time I attend, it will be led by the rector of the institute,” he wished, and the audience responded with a chorus of “Amin.”

In his closing remarks, the son of the late charismatic scholar from South Sulawesi, Al-Mukarram AG. K.H. Dr. (H.C.) Muhammad Sanusi Baco, B.A., Lc., M.A., quoted the advice of his late father, rahimahullah:

“My dear children! Don’t be sad because perhaps you were raised by parents who were not wealthy. But when you grow up, repay your parents not with abundant wealth, not with high positions and ranks, but by being children with good morals and character,” he concluded.

STIBA Makassar, during the 6th Graduation Ceremony, once again awarded degrees to 261 of its students, consisting of 130 male students and 131 female students.

  • STIBA Makassar Explores Insights on Turats Texts and Student Character Development During Visits to Two Educational Institutions

STIBA Makassar Explores Insights on Turats Texts and Student Character Development During Visits to Two Educational Institutions

(STIBA.ac.id) Karanganyar – On the third day of their Study Tour, the STIBA Makassar delegation began their activities at 06:00 AM in Karanganyar, Central Java, and continued until the evening in Yogyakarta.

Led by the Chairman of STIBA, the delegation’s first visit was to Ma’had Salman al-Farisi II. The visit was received by Syekh Dr. Labib Najib Abdullah and Ustaz Abdurrahim Ba’asyir, who serve as the Chairman of the Supervisory Council and the Kyai of the Salman Al Farisi Foundation, respectively, along with several other officials, including members of the Supervisory Council and Kyai of the Foundation, the Director of the Boarding School, the Head of Ma’had Aly, and the Head of the Madrasah of Salman Al Farisi.

The main purpose of this visit was to learn from the programs implemented at Ma’had Salman al-Farisi, particularly in strengthening the understanding of Turats texts.

The Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, M.A., Ph.D., explained that STIBA operates under the auspices of the Wahdah Islamiyah organization.

“The first educational institution established by Wahdah is STIBA,” Ustaz Akhmad clarified.

Meanwhile, Syekh Labib stated that his goal is not necessarily for his students to master all branches of knowledge immediately upon leaving the Salman Pondok, but at least to show them the path of knowledge and provide them with the keys to knowledge.

“The books taught here are only Turats texts. Because those who can understand Turats texts will find it easier to understand contemporary texts,” Syekh explained.

The delegation then headed to Ma’had Isy Karima at 09:30 AM and arrived around 10:00 AM.

Present at the welcoming ceremony and MoU signing were Ustaz Syihabuddin Abdul Muiz Al-Hafizh, Chairman of the Isy Karima Social and Education Foundation, Ustaz Apip Najaruddin S.Pd.I, who serves as the Director of Ma’had, Ustaz Alif Bahtiar, M.Pd. (Assistant Director I), Ustaz Ahmad Sultoni, Lc., M.P.I. (Chairman of STIQ), along with vice chairmen and program coordinators.

The purpose of the study tour visit to STIQ was to gain more insights into the spirit of Ma’had Isy Karima, especially STIQ, in the study of the Quran, as well as in the character development and militancy of its students.

According to the explanations from STIQ representatives, one of the key factors contributing to their excellence in teaching the Quran and developing student character is their highly selective admission process, where only potential candidates are accepted as new students.

Since there was still a scheduled study tour at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), the STIBA delegation, led by the Chairman, departed from STIQ at 11:30 AM, while the Vice Chairman III and units directly involved in student development continued discussions with the leaders of STIQ.

  • Strengthening the Management of Islamic Economics and Sharia Law Program and Quality Assurance, STIBA Conducts Benchmarking at UMS

Strengthening the Management of Islamic Economics and Sharia Law Program and Quality Assurance, STIBA Conducts Benchmarking at UMS

(STIBA.ac.id) Surakarta – The Islamic Economics and Sharia Law Program is the newest program at STIBA Makassar and therefore lacks adequate experience in its management. This is the reason behind the benchmarking visit to the Islamic Economics and Sharia Law Program (HES) at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS).

The delegation arrived at UMS at 1:30 PM and was divided into two teams. The first team visited the Quality Assurance Institute of UMS to better understand the quality assurance methods at the third-best international Islamic university. This team consisted of the Vice Chairman II, Vice Chairman IV, Head of the Quality Assurance Center, Program Coordinator for Comparative Jurisprudence, Head of the Finance Department, and Head of the Alumni Empowerment Department.

One key point of the benchmarking visit to the Quality Assurance Institute (LJM) at UMS was the vital function of internal institution auditors. Therefore, STIBA considered it important to conduct training to produce auditors.

The second team, led by the Chairman of STIBA, was welcomed by the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Drs. Suharjianto, M.Ag., the Program Coordinator of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Sharia Law, Fauzul Hanif Noor Athief, Lc, M.Si., the Program Coordinator of the HES Master’s Program, Dr. Isman, S.H.I., S.H., M.H., and other officials.

In addition to gaining additional insights and knowledge related to the management of the HES program, STIBA Makassar also received good news from the Coordinator of the HES Master’s Program, Dr. Isman M.H.I. He offered a 25% discount and assistance in completing the final study for STIBA alumni who want to continue their studies in the international-class HES Master’s Program, which uses Arabic as the medium of instruction.

At 4:15 PM, the delegation left UMS for Yogyakarta, where they arrived at 5:50 PM and were hosted for dinner by one of STIBA Makassar’s alumni, Ustaz Alfi Syahar, Lc., M.A.

At 8:00 PM, a combined Tarbiah session was held at the Ukhuwah Islamiyah Mosque in Bantul, facilitated by Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar.

STIBA Makassar Goes on a Study Visit to Java, STDI Imam Shafi’i and Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School are the First Destinations

(STIBA.ac.id) Surabaya – The School of Islamic Sciences and Arabic Language (STIBA) Makassar sent 27 officials on a study visit to Java, starting from East Java, Central Java, West Java, and ending in DKI Jakarta. The departure of the delegation took place on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

The Study Visit Delegation consists of the Chairman of the Senate, Ustaz Dr. Muhammad Yusran Anshar, Lc., MA., the Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Dr. Ahmad Hanafi, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., along with vice-chairmen, heads of centers, and heads of departments. This visit is aimed at conducting benchmarking at various educational institutions, including Islamic higher education institutions, Islamic universities, the central council of Indonesian Ulema (MUI), Islamic boarding schools, and others.

On the first day, Monday (July 31), the team was divided into two. The first team went to STDI Imam Shafi’i, Jember, East Java, led by the Chairman of STIBA Makassar. Accompanying the delegation were the Chairman of the Senate, Vice-Chairman I, and Vice-Chairman III, along with other relevant officials.

They were welcomed by several officials from STDI Imam Shafi’i, such as Ustaz Dr. Muhammad Arifin Badri, Lc., M.A., and Ustaz Dr. Syafiq Riza Basalamah, Lc., M.A.

The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere. Moreover, the Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Ahmad Hanafi, and the leaders of STDI Imam Shafi’i, Ustaz Muhammad Arifin Badri, have been close friends since they studied at the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

“The guests are truly extraordinary. This is a form of goodwill towards us because STIBA, in terms of scale, is larger than us, and it is also older. While I have not yet completed my undergraduate studies in Madinah, STIBA already existed,” said Ustaz Arifin Badri, the Director of STDI Imam Shafi’i.

Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of the delegation and explained the purpose of the visit.

“We need to see the achievements of others so that we can improve the quality of our institution. This is an important event because we will start our second term. Thank you very much for this warm welcome,” said Ustaz Akhmad.

Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar also had the opportunity to deliver a few words.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very happy to meet all the scholars directly. This is a pilgrimage of love (ziyarah fillah). Even though it may seem formal, it is all to show love for the sake of Allah, al-mutajalisina fiyya, those who will be honored on the Day of Judgment,” said Ustaz Yusran.

Furthermore, Ustaz Yusran mentioned that visiting scholars is a practice of the salaf (early Muslims).

“Even the prophets did that. Prophet Ibrahim visited his nephew, Prophet Lut. Abu Musa visited Mu’adh bin Jabal. As an application of the Prophet’s saying, ‘Make things easy and do not make them difficult; give glad tidings and do not repel people.’ This is a mutual visit for goodness,” he concluded.

Ustaz Muh. Jawaz, Chairman of the Imam Shafi’i Foundation in Jember, stated that STIBA is full of struggles, and within it, the Word of Allah is recited.

“We are both struggling, educating a rabbani generation, on the same path to educate the ummah. Everyone needs to struggle. I express my gratitude, Alhamdulillah, jazakumullahu khairan ala qudumikum, for the brotherly visit on this occasion,” he said.

This general study visit session concluded with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and agreements and the exchange of mementos.

The event was concluded with a brief speech by Ustaz Syafiq Riza Basalamah.

“Jazakumullahu khairan for your visit, our brothers and sisters. You know that Jember is far away and tiring to reach. Hopefully, your visit will always be remembered,” he concluded.

After the welcoming ceremony, specific study visits were conducted, divided into four areas from 10:00 to 11:30.

“I hope this is not the first and last visit. So that we can continue to learn from each other and be motivated to do better. I hope there will continue to be communication, correspondence, letter-writing because the spirit is cooperation and competition in goodness,” said Ustaz Arifin Badri as he bid farewell to the STIBA Makassar study visit delegation.

“We don’t need to worry about competition. Our ummah is too large to be covered by only two institutions,” said Ustaz Arifin Badri as he bid farewell to the STIBA Makassar study visit delegation.

Meanwhile, the second team went to the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School Cooperative in Pasuruan, and the third team went to the School of Islamic Studies (STDI) Imam Shafi’i in Jember.

The delegation to Sidogiri was led by Vice-Chairman IV for Cooperation, Ustaz Ahmad Syaripudin, S.Pd.I., M.Pd.I. Accompanying the delegation were Vice-Chairman II, Ustaz Iskandar Kato, S.T.P., M.Si. (Chairman of the Education Division WI), the management of the Tamam Cooperative, and several relevant officials.

The delegation was received by several officials from the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School Cooperative.

  • Just in One Day, STIBA Makassar’s Qurban Committee Sacrifices and Distributes 29 Cows and 46 Goats

Just in One Day, STIBA Makassar’s Qurban Committee Sacrifices and Distributes 29 Cows and 46 Goats

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The trust of the Muslim community in the STIBA Makassar Qurban Committee continues to grow. This is evident from the increasing number of sacrificial donors who entrust the management of their qurban animals to STIBA Makassar.

This Eid al-Adha year (1444 H/2023 M), the Qurban Committee successfully distributed 29 cows and 46 goats. Over time, from year to year, the management of qurban animals at STIBA Makassar has become increasingly professional. The qurban committee only needed one day to complete the slaughter of that many qurban animals.

Not only the committee, but most of the students who chose to celebrate Eid on campus were also involved in the qurban animal processing.

This year, two parents of students also participated in qurban by each donating a cow, all of which were gifted to STIBA Makassar. Therefore, the committee prioritized the slaughter of these two cows for the Eid consumption of the students in the dormitory.

The Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., who accompanied the committee in the field, expressed his gratitude to the sacrificial donors.

“On behalf of the Academic Community of STIBA Makassar, I express our thanks and appreciation to all the sacrificial donors who entrusted their qurban animals to STIBA Makassar this year. We pray to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala that these sacrifices are accepted by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and that their rewards are multiplied by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala,” he said.

Ustaz Akhmad also apologized if there were still any shortcomings.

“Hopefully, in the coming years, we can carry out the qurban worship better, more professionally, and certainly with the support of this year’s donors. InshaAllah, we will be together again in the coming years,” concluded the Deputy Chairman of the Wahdah Islamiyah Sharia Council on Thursday (July 28, 2023).
