(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – STIBA Makassar’s Academic Department organized a Creative Teacher Workshop with the theme “My Professors Are Cool, Professional, and Enjoyable” on Saturday, 16 Safar 1445 H (02/09/2023). The workshop was attended by both male and female professors in a hybrid format, with a total of approximately 71 faculty members.
This event was designed as a means for faculty development, serving the needs of both new and experienced professors, providing a boost to start the academic year with enthusiasm and enhanced teaching.
The workshop began with a brief prologue by the Deputy Dean of the Academic Department of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Dr. Kasman Bakry, M.H.I., who also served as the event director and head of the organizing committee. It was followed by welcoming remarks and a brief sermon from STIBA Makassar’s Chairman, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D.
In his address, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi quoted an expression: “Teaching material is important, but the method is more important than the material. The method is important, but the educator is more important than the method. The educator is important, but the educator’s spirit is far more important.”
He also emphasized the importance of faculty members participating in this training, considering that the presenters have relevant experience with their institution.
Dr. Supriyadi commenced the training by expressing his joy at reuniting with the faculty, especially considering that he had been a teacher to Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi during his studies at Darun Najah.
This workshop is a continuation of previous activities carried out by the academic department. While a similar activity had been conducted separately for female professors at the beginning of the previous odd semester, this workshop was primarily focused on male professors. Nevertheless, female faculty members were also given the opportunity to follow the content online via the Zoom platform.
“The theme we have chosen for this training is part of faculty development, which is one of the determining factors for accreditation. However, it is essential to remember that faculty development is not only related to accreditation. A faculty member’s skills in interacting with students are crucial because how faculty can capture students’ interest in learning is also highly vital,” said Dr. Supriadi.
The training materials were divided into three sessions:
- Brainstorming for lesson preparation.
- Introduction and training on the latest RPS format based on OBE (Outcome Based Education).
- Student evaluation and assessment systems presented in the form of active learning.
The training began by assigning participants to brainstorm in phased group discussions (effective discussions demonstrated during the training) to explore the question, “What do you do to prepare for teaching?” Each group then presented their discussion through PowerPoint (PPT) presentations prepared by each group.
Additionally, they received direct training on the new OBE-based RPS and active learning strategies.
The training concluded with a session on learning evaluation and assessment, presented in an active learning format, along with a presentation of teaching strategies. Participants were provided with related articles in journal form to read, and then all participants engaged in group discussions to review their discussion outcomes, which were recorded on manila cardboard paper. The presenters gave each group the opportunity to explain their discussion results, represented by randomly selected participants chosen by previous participants. In the closing session, the presenter provided additional explanations about teaching strategies.
The workshop took place in the Meeting Room on the 4th floor of the Rectorate building for male faculty members and via the Zoom platform for female faculty members. The event lasted from 08:00 to 15:00 Central Indonesia Time.
