(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Women’s Journalistic Student Activity Unit (UKM Jurnalistik Putri) of STIBA Makassar proudly presents the Muslimah’s Expo scientific seminar as a contributive step in enhancing literacy in Indonesia. According to UNESCO data, Indonesia ranks second from the bottom in global literacy, with only 0.001% of the population showing an interest in reading. In this context, this event is brought forth as a tangible effort to address the pressing issue of literacy.

Understanding the pivotal role of literacy in civilization, the Women’s Journalistic Student Activity Unit of STIBA Makassar emphasizes the importance of building literacy awareness through this event. This scientific seminar is expected to make a positive contribution to increasing interest in reading and, in turn, advancing the Islamic civilization in Indonesia.

This year’s Muslimah’s Expo carries the theme “The Existence of Generation Z as Advocates in the Era of Society 5.0.” Beyond the Scientific Seminar, the event also involves participants in five competition categories open to female students from both STIBA Makassar and other institutions, including high school students. The registered participants for the competitions are 50 individuals. The competitions include Essay Writing, Scientific Debate, Poster Desig

n, Book Content Surgery, and the Literacy Quick and Precise Competition. The event concludes with the organization of the Scientific Seminar as the highlight.

The opening of Muslimah’s Expo, which took place on Sunday (5/11/2023) at the Aisyah Building’s Auditorium in STIBA Makassar, was attended by approximately 400 participants, including female students and high school students.

The event began with remarks from the head of the organizing committee, Azizah Hidayat, and also remarks from the Deputy Head of Women’s Student Affairs at STIBA Makassar, Ustazah Munawwarah. It was followed by a technical meeting with the participants.

Ustazah Munawwarah hopes that Muslimah’s Expo can serve as a platform that ignites the spirit of the younger generation to engage in literacy and encourages the spirit of da’wah through literacy.
