Muslimah’s Expo 2023 Carries the Theme “The Existence of Generation Z as Advocates in the Era of Society 5.0.”

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Women’s Journalistic Student Activity Unit (UKM Jurnalistik Putri) of STIBA Makassar proudly presents the Muslimah’s Expo scientific seminar as a contributive step in enhancing literacy in Indonesia. According to UNESCO data, Indonesia ranks second from the bottom in global literacy, with only 0.001% of the population showing an interest in reading. In this context, this event is brought forth as a tangible effort to address the pressing issue of literacy.

Understanding the pivotal role of literacy in civilization, the Women’s Journalistic Student Activity Unit of STIBA Makassar emphasizes the importance of building literacy awareness through this event. This scientific seminar is expected to make a positive contribution to increasing interest in reading and, in turn, advancing the Islamic civilization in Indonesia.

This year’s Muslimah’s Expo carries the theme “The Existence of Generation Z as Advocates in the Era of Society 5.0.” Beyond the Scientific Seminar, the event also involves participants in five competition categories open to female students from both STIBA Makassar and other institutions, including high school students. The registered participants for the competitions are 50 individuals. The competitions include Essay Writing, Scientific Debate, Poster Desig

n, Book Content Surgery, and the Literacy Quick and Precise Competition. The event concludes with the organization of the Scientific Seminar as the highlight.

The opening of Muslimah’s Expo, which took place on Sunday (5/11/2023) at the Aisyah Building’s Auditorium in STIBA Makassar, was attended by approximately 400 participants, including female students and high school students.

The event began with remarks from the head of the organizing committee, Azizah Hidayat, and also remarks from the Deputy Head of Women’s Student Affairs at STIBA Makassar, Ustazah Munawwarah. It was followed by a technical meeting with the participants.

Ustazah Munawwarah hopes that Muslimah’s Expo can serve as a platform that ignites the spirit of the younger generation to engage in literacy and encourages the spirit of da’wah through literacy.

STIBA Makassar Holds Midterm Exams, Students Reminded to Make the Most of the Exam Period

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Islam dan Bahasa Arab (STIBA) Makassar is conducting Midterm Exams (UTS) starting today, Monday (23/10) until Friday (27/10). These exams are taken by all STIBA Makassar students, including those in the Language Preparation Program, Comparative Jurisprudence Program, Arabic Language Education Program, and Sharia Economic Law Program.

Vice Chairman I of Academic and Student Affairs, Ustaz Rahmat Badani, Lc., M.A., stated that midterm exams are a crucial stage in the higher education learning process. These exams are intended to measure the extent to which students have mastered the materials provided during the ongoing semester.

“Exams are a part of the learning process, and without exams, one cannot evaluate their own quality,” said Ustaz Rahmat.

Therefore, he hopes that students will view the ongoing midterm exams over the course of a week as a moment to pause and reflect.

“Pause and take a moment to look back. Reflect on what we have gone through during the eight weeks of learning, to identify any shortcomings that have existed so far and solidify our foundation for the future,” he said.

Nurhabib Miftahurrazaq, a third-semester student in the Comparative Jurisprudence Program, said that he had prepared diligently for these exams.

“I have been studying diligently, although I am aware that there is a possibility that I may not achieve the best results. However, I will continue to strive for the best and hope to obtain satisfactory results.”

“As a seeker of religious knowledge, my intention to study is, of course, to seek Allah’s pleasure. May the knowledge I seek today be beneficial to me and others,” added this student from Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi.

The midterm exams are being taken by 1,105 male students and 1,199 female students.

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – STIBA Makassar’s Nature Lovers (Mapala) participated in the Clean-Up Action at Jongaya Canal organized by Mapala PT throughout South Sulawesi on Saturday-Sunday (07-08/10/2023). This two-day event involved cleaning up the litter along Jongaya Canal located on Andi Tonro Street No. 17, Pabaeng-Baeng, Temalate District, Makassar City.

This activity was carried out due to concerns about the very dirty condition of Jongaya Canal, with its water flow disrupted by a mixture of mud and plastic packaging waste.

In addition to Mapala STIBA Makassar, this event was also attended by other Mapala PT from South Sulawesi, including Mapala Veteran UPRI, Mapala UIM Makassar, Sintalaras UNM, Mapala Handayani, Mapala YPUP, Mapala PNUP, Mapala Akba, Mapala 45 Makassar, Mapala STIM Lasharan Jaya Makassar, Mahadipa STIMIK Dipanegara Makassar, Mahapati Makassar, Mapala STIEM Bongaya Makassar, and Basmalah.

  • Drought Strikes, STIBA Makassar Holds Istisqa Prayer

Drought Strikes, STIBA Makassar Holds Istisqa Prayer

(STIBA.ac.di) Makassar – The prolonged dry season affecting Makassar and most areas of the country has had broad-ranging impacts on people’s lives. Failed harvests, wildfires, and a clean water crisis are among the problems faced. The reduction in the volume of river water, which is widely used for electricity generation, has also led to decreased power supplies in various regions. The campus community of STIBA Makassar is also feeling the effects.

The absence of rain in October served as the reason for thousands of STIBA Makassar students, residents of Antang, and surrounding areas to gather, carrying the same feelings and burdens, to perform the Istisqa (Istisqa) prayer or seek rain.

STIBA Chairman Ustaz Dr. Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., served as the imam and khatib. In his sermon before the thousands of worshipers, he emphasized that humans’ need for rainwater is evidence of the dependence of humanity on Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

“We are all dependent on His mercy and all His gifts, no matter how high or great a person is, they will never be able to live without the grace of Allah,” he expressed in the Istisqa prayer sermon at the Uhud Field of STIBA Makassar, on Saturday (07/10/2023).

Furthermore, Ustaz Akhmad also reminded that Allah’s wrath is often a result of human actions.

“The widespread acts of disobedience, such as the practice of magic, usurious transactions, adultery, LGBT, corruption, breach of promises, and so on, all of these are reasons why Allah tests and challenges us,” stated the STIBA chairman firmly.

“May this situation awaken all of us, the entire nation, ordinary citizens or the government, the marginalized or officials, the forgetful or celebrities, that this earth belongs to Allah,” he hoped.

Ustaz Akhmad also called on the congregation to increase their istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and ask for forgiveness from the Almighty Allah to bestow His beneficial rain as a sign of His mercy.

  • Two Years of the Ulama Cadre Program (PKU), What’s the Latest?

Two Years of the Ulama Cadre Program (PKU), What’s the Latest?

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Ulama Cadre Program (Program Kaderisasi Ulama – PKU) has reached its second anniversary since its launch in September 2021. This program, aimed at nurturing quality scholars, has achieved several notable accomplishments over the past two years. With ten students and a team of select educators, PKU has carved a path of remarkable achievements.

PKU is directly managed by a group of prominent teaching faculty, including Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Monqez al-Ashiil, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Muhammad ‘Abd al-Hadi al-Mishri, Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., Ustaz Dr. Muhammad Basran, Lc., M.A., Ustaz Dr. Rustam Koly, Lc., M.A., Ustaz Dr. Kasman Bakry, M.H.I., and others.

Over the past two years, PKU students have achieved numerous notable accomplishments. In the memorization of classical Islamic texts, they have successfully completed the memorization of various essential texts, including Matan Abi Syuja’, al-Waraqat, al-Ajurumiyyah, al-Manzhumah al-Baiquniyyah, and many more.

In the field of Quranic memorization, two students, Arfan and A. M. Nur Atma Amir, have not only completed the Hafs recitation but also memorized the Quran in the Shu’bah recitation.

Regarding traditional Islamic texts (kitab-kitab turats), PKU students not only gained deep insights provided by the teaching faculty but also diligently memorized them. The Bulughul Maram text is one of the traditional texts memorized by PKU students. Currently, three of its students, Andi Muh. Ihsan Yusuf, Muh. Shiddiq Aminullah, and Arfan, have successfully completed the memorization of this text.

According to Ustaz Muhammad Shiddiq Abdillah, Lc., M.A., who recently concluded his tenure as the PKU Secretary, the initial learning period was scheduled for two years but was extended to three years. This extension was done to ensure that students could deepen their religious knowledge more comprehensively.

In the recent Inauguration Ceremony of the STIBA Makassar Management Structure for 2023—2027, the Chairman of STIBA Makassar also appointed the new chairman and secretary of PKU. As chairman, Ustaz Dr. Maulana La Eda, Lc., M.A., succeeded Ustaz Dr. Muhammad Basran Yusuf, Lc., M.A. Ustaz Maulana attended the virtual event as he was in Saudi Arabia. The role of secretary was entrusted to Arfan, S.S., M.Ag.

In a statement sent to the editorial team on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, the Chairman of STIBA Makassar expressed his hope that this structural change would bring positive changes to PKU.

“With this change in structure, hopefully, we can do better. In the future, the learning capacity will be enhanced, and the scholarly quality of PKU students will also be elevated. For the first batch of students, there will undoubtedly be strengthening programs so that in this additional year, they can be more proficient, both in terms of knowledge capacity and the stability of memorization, which is a distinctive feature of Islamic scholars,” he said.

Furthermore, Ustaz Akhmad emphasized that, in Islam, the depth of knowledge and the strength of memorization are distinctive characteristics of scholars.

“The depth of their knowledge and the strength of their memorization are distinguishing features of scholars. Additionally, coupled with their fear of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, which is another distinguishing trait possessed by scholars,” he added.

The Chairman of STIBA Makassar also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported the Ulama Cadre Program.

  • The Chairman of STIBA Makassar Announces the New Management Structure, Including the Addition of New Units. What Are They?

The Chairman of STIBA Makassar Announces the New Management Structure, Including the Addition of New Units. What Are They?

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – On Monday, September 11, 2023, the Islamic College of Makassar, known as “Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Islam dan Bahasa Arab” (STIBA), established its Management Structure for the period 2023-2027. The confirmation ceremony was conducted by STIBA Makassar’s Chairman, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., at the Anas bin Malik Mosque. The event was also attended by leaders from the Central Board of Wahdah Islamiyah and the Chairman of STIBA Makassar’s Senate.

During this occasion, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi emphasized the significance of appointing the management team as a sign that the STIBA Makassar organization is functioning effectively. There has been regeneration and changes in the management.

“Hopefully, all the newly appointed members of the management team can fulfill this responsibility to the best of their abilities,” stated Ustaz Akhmad.

In his address, Ustaz Akhmad also revealed a significant change in the management structure of STIBA Makassar. One of the major changes is the merging of the Academic Division with the Student Affairs Division.

“We have combined the Academic Division with the Student Affairs Division to ensure that academic and student activities are balanced. There is no longer a dichotomy between academic and student activities,” Ustaz Akhmad hoped.

Furthermore, other structural changes include the addition of a Secretariat, the Quran and Arabic Language Development and Supervision Center, and the 5M Character Development and Islamic Boarding Center.

“The Secretariat will serve as the planning and development center for STIBA Makassar, including plans for adding study programs and changing STIBA’s status to an institute,” Ustaz Akhmad explained.

The Quran and Arabic Language Development and Supervision Center were established with the aim of improving the quality of Arabic language skills among students.

“The 5M character development and Islamic boarding center aim to enhance the character quality of STIBA Makassar’s students by applying character development based on 5M: Mu’min, Mushlih, Mujahid, Muta’awin, and Mutqin,” he added.

In the Daily Management Meeting (Musyawarah Pengelola Harian – MPH) on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi conveyed that the responsibility given to the management or educational staff is a form of trust from the Chairman of STIBA Makassar.

“The new responsibility shows that there is trust given to you individually or collectively. Choosing personnel to accompany the Chairman of STIBA can actually be decided individually, but it still needs to be discussed. So, what was read yesterday is a form of trust,” he explained.

Ustaz Akhmad also mentioned that this new responsibility indicates the potential in the management assigned to specific units.

“Sometimes, a person has potential, but they may not realize it. Therefore, we hope that their potential matches their new role. Perhaps, at the beginning, some may feel the burden of their new position. But in addition to trust, we also believe that every manager has potential,” he added.

Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi then outlined the general tasks and functions of each unit at STIBA Makassar.

In his closing sermon, he urged all the new managers of STIBA Makassar to work in line with STIBA Makassar’s Strategic Plan (Renstra).

“I also advise that the development of work programs should be guided by the 5M character. Uniformity in work programs between males and females should also be considered. Additionally, all of you need to understand the lines of coordination and command,” he expressed.

  • Dr. Khoirul Umam Highlights the Differences Between Pesantren and Secular Education Systems

Dr. Khoirul Umam Highlights the Differences Between Pesantren and Secular Education Systems

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – The Islamic College of Makassar, also known as “Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Islam dan Bahasa Arab” (STIBA), is embarking on a new chapter in the Academic Year 1445—1446 H/2023—2024 M with the commencement of their inaugural lecture. This activity marks the beginning of the Even Semester and involves the entire academic community of STIBA Makassar.

The speaker for this inaugural lecture is Dr. Khoirul Umam, M.Ec., the Deputy Rector III of Darussalam University (Unida) Gontor. In his presentation, Dr. Khoirul Umam discusses the comparison between the holistic, integrative, and theistic nature of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) education and secular educational systems.

According to him, the pesantren education system places great emphasis on the unity of faith, knowledge, and practice. Pesantren education teaches creed, Islamic law (sharia), and morality as an inseparable unity. Spiritual devotion, intellectual development, emotional growth, and physical fitness are integral components of pesantren education.

On the other hand, secular educational systems often exhibit a dualism between religious knowledge and general knowledge. In this system, religious knowledge is sometimes perceived as a mere religious ritual and not associated with scientific knowledge.

Dr. Khoirul also addresses issues related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the adverse effects of environmentally damaging development. He also highlights the influence of multinational corporations and the use of modern technology that can harm the environment.

Furthermore, he explains that in the context of development and economics, it is important to consider Islamic jurisprudence (fikih) related to practices that may harm the environment and society.

“Take the Comparative School of Thought program as an example. What is the Islamic jurisprudence regarding farming practices that harm the land? This is the answer we need to think about. Don’t just focus on comparing schools of thought but remain insensitive to what is happening in society. Islamic jurisprudence scholars solve the problems of the community,” he emphasized.

According to him, Islamic jurisprudence experts have a deeper understanding of the laws given by Allah, and their involvement in solving economic issues can be more relevant and beneficial.

Formalities and academic degrees are also discussed in Dr. Khoirul’s lecture. According to the Deputy Rector III of Unida, formalities such as degrees and diplomas have significant value in certain contexts, especially in gaining recognition from the public and enhancing the institution’s reputation in the field of preaching. However, profound knowledge and understanding of a particular issue remain the key factors in providing correct solutions.

  • STIBA Makassar Holds Creative Lecturer Workshop: My Lecturers are Cool, Professional, and Fun

STIBA Makassar Holds Creative Lecturer Workshop: My Lecturers are Cool, Professional, and Fun

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – STIBA Makassar’s Academic Department organized a Creative Teacher Workshop with the theme “My Professors Are Cool, Professional, and Enjoyable” on Saturday, 16 Safar 1445 H (02/09/2023). The workshop was attended by both male and female professors in a hybrid format, with a total of approximately 71 faculty members.

This event was designed as a means for faculty development, serving the needs of both new and experienced professors, providing a boost to start the academic year with enthusiasm and enhanced teaching.

The workshop began with a brief prologue by the Deputy Dean of the Academic Department of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Dr. Kasman Bakry, M.H.I., who also served as the event director and head of the organizing committee. It was followed by welcoming remarks and a brief sermon from STIBA Makassar’s Chairman, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D.

In his address, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi quoted an expression: “Teaching material is important, but the method is more important than the material. The method is important, but the educator is more important than the method. The educator is important, but the educator’s spirit is far more important.”

He also emphasized the importance of faculty members participating in this training, considering that the presenters have relevant experience with their institution.

Dr. Supriyadi commenced the training by expressing his joy at reuniting with the faculty, especially considering that he had been a teacher to Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi during his studies at Darun Najah.

This workshop is a continuation of previous activities carried out by the academic department. While a similar activity had been conducted separately for female professors at the beginning of the previous odd semester, this workshop was primarily focused on male professors. Nevertheless, female faculty members were also given the opportunity to follow the content online via the Zoom platform.

“The theme we have chosen for this training is part of faculty development, which is one of the determining factors for accreditation. However, it is essential to remember that faculty development is not only related to accreditation. A faculty member’s skills in interacting with students are crucial because how faculty can capture students’ interest in learning is also highly vital,” said Dr. Supriadi.

The training materials were divided into three sessions:

    1. Brainstorming for lesson preparation.
    2. Introduction and training on the latest RPS format based on OBE (Outcome Based Education).
    3. Student evaluation and assessment systems presented in the form of active learning.

The training began by assigning participants to brainstorm in phased group discussions (effective discussions demonstrated during the training) to explore the question, “What do you do to prepare for teaching?” Each group then presented their discussion through PowerPoint (PPT) presentations prepared by each group.

Additionally, they received direct training on the new OBE-based RPS and active learning strategies.

The training concluded with a session on learning evaluation and assessment, presented in an active learning format, along with a presentation of teaching strategies. Participants were provided with related articles in journal form to read, and then all participants engaged in group discussions to review their discussion outcomes, which were recorded on manila cardboard paper. The presenters gave each group the opportunity to explain their discussion results, represented by randomly selected participants chosen by previous participants. In the closing session, the presenter provided additional explanations about teaching strategies.

The workshop took place in the Meeting Room on the 4th floor of the Rectorate building for male faculty members and via the Zoom platform for female faculty members. The event lasted from 08:00 to 15:00 Central Indonesia Time.

  • STIBA Makassar’s Inaugural Lecture Focuses on Student Character Education

STIBA Makassar’s Inaugural Lecture Focuses on Student Character Education

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – One day after bidding farewell to the alumni as they embark on their respective missions in their regions, the School of Islamic Sciences and Arabic Language (STIBA) Makassar began a new chapter of lectures with the Inaugural Lecture on Monday, August 28, 2023. The event, attended by all students, including new students, as well as lecturers and educational staff, marked the start of the Academic Year 1445—1446 H/2023—2024 M.

The speaker for this Inaugural Lecture was Ustaz Dr. Khoirul Umam, M.Ec., the Vice Rector III of Darussalam Gontor University, who has extensive experience in the world of Islamic boarding schools. With his experience and expertise, Ustaz Khoirul provided insights on the theme “Character Education Based on Higher Education ala Pesantren,” discussing the importance of building strong character through higher education by adopting pesantren values.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Ustaz Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of the blessings of faith and Islam. With these two blessings, an individual can understand their position as a servant of Allah, know their vision and mission, and comprehend their purpose in being created by Allah on this earth.

“We express our gratitude because among the many people who are Muslims and have faith, Allah has chosen us to be on the path of knowledge. Where knowledge is a necessity, and as the scholars say, the need for knowledge is like our need for air,” said Ustaz Akhmad.

One of the primary goals of increasing knowledge is to overcome ignorance, both within oneself and in others. In the context of education, the Chairman of STIBA Makassar stressed the importance of the enthusiasm of teachers and institution administrators in imparting knowledge to students. He also emphasized that STIBA Makassar’s five-year strategic plan is to enhance its reputation not only nationally but also internationally.

The challenges of managing an educational institution were also acknowledged by Ustaz Akhmad. Therefore, he affirmed his commitment to strengthening the character of the students. A Character and Islamic Boarding School Development Center will be established as a concrete effort to enhance the character and morality of the students.

The proven effective residential education model will also continue to be maintained as one of the best approaches to shaping the next generation.

“We will maintain the residential education model because we believe it is one of the best models for nurturing a generation that aligns with our vision and mission,” he concluded.

The Senate Chairman, Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., delivered a speech and opened the Inaugural Lecture for the new academic year. In his address, Ustaz Yusran stated that a believer always leads a good life, even though they may appear poor or face hardships.

For new students, the experience on campus may be different, and there are rules to be followed. Although rules can be challenging at times, Ustaz Yusran noted that there is no intention to cause inconvenience. Rules are made as guidelines for life. Some students may have been living in Islamic boarding schools for a long time and might feel tired, but every place and time has its own unique differences.

The former chairman of STIBA Makassar also revealed that sometimes teachers may feel frustrated with some students who are difficult to manage or tend to create problems, but they can also succeed in their studies. In fact, some of them may be more enthusiastic about spreading Islamic teachings than students who appear polite and diligent in class. Therefore, Ustaz Yusran advised teachers not to get tired of guiding them because one of them may eventually lead them to paradise.

“We don’t know how Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala will admit us to His paradise. Therefore, as long as there is an opportunity to do good, do good deeds, sow goodness,” Ustaz Yusran said.

This Inaugural Lecture marks a positive beginning for further developing the character and academic potential of the students. STIBA Makassar hopes that this step will have a positive impact on the field of education, especially for the academic community of STIBA Makassar.

Dakwah is the path to the dignity of the nation and people. It is very clear, of all our efforts to build this nation and country, to build our ummah, dakwah is one of the main paths,” he said.

Ustaz Zaitun Rasmin also called on Muslims to participate in preserving the dignity of the ummah and nation through financial support for dakwah. He emphasized, “On this happy occasion, we are attending the send-off for the dai and daiahs, who are the heirs of the prophets, the successors of the duties of the prophets and messengers. Let us resolve to support them, so that their duties are successful, so that our struggle can be realized as we have hoped for all this time. For those who provide support to these warriors, they are also warriors. ‘Whoever prepares a warrior, then he is also a warrior,’” he emphasized.

Muslims, let us be the generation that preserves the dignity of the ummah and nation by setting aside some of our wealth for dakwah.
