Visiting STIBA Makassar, Director of Islamic Higher Education of The Ministry of Religion of Indonesia, Hope School Comparison Study Program Produce Inclusive Students

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – Strengthening character is the most important and most expensive thing in Islamic-boarding-based educational institutions. One of its forms is the separation of men and women to keep the iffah (modesty). This was conveyed by the Director of Islamic Higher Education (Diktis) of the Ministry of Religion of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Suyitno during his visit to STIBA Makassar, Thursday (3 of February 2022). He revealed this when responding to his audience at the Anas bin Malik Mosque which was only attended by students, while female students and lecturers followed online.

Prof. Suyitno explains one verse in Surah al-Hujurat which means, “O mankind, indeed We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know each other. Verily, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is the most pious of you. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Knowing.” (Surat al-Hujurat: 13).

“Based on this verse, there are three concepts of life so that we can live in harmony. First, we must get to know each other, ta’aruf. I came here wanting to know more about STIBA. I do not want to get information that is just a second opinion. I have heard directly from the Chairperson of STIBA. I also received information from the Head of Department IV of Wahdah Islamiyah,” he added.

“This first point will bring up the second, namely tasamuh (accepting each other). We are tolerant people, inclusive individuals, not easily blaming other people’s opinions.”

“Students in STIBA learn fiqh of muqaranah al-mazahib (schools comparison). If we study fiqh, let alone have compared the opinions of the four schools of thought, then it turns out that Islam has not only one approach. There are many options in making decisions based on ijtihad, especially al-madzahib al-arba’ah. People who already have a broad view will be inclusive, not easy to blame people, and will feel good,” he explained further.

“After tasamuh, the third according to Prof. Suyitno is tahabbuh (loving each other). People can not conceivably know if they do not know each other, people can not love each other if there is no mutual inclusivism, holding each other up, not negating each other, acknowledging each other’s existence, and not denying others’ presence.”

“The message is very crucial for all of us, being a big campus is not only measured by the number of students. Being a big campus is not only measured by its reputation. Instead, being a big campus is measured by the amount of its contribution to the nation,” he concluded, ending his academic advice.

Prof. Dr. Suyitno was accompanied by the Head of Sub-Directorate for Institutional and Cooperation of the Ministry of Religion, M. Adib Abdushomad, Ph.D., and Head of Quality Assurance for Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTKI), Ahmad Mahfud Arsyad M.Ag.

On this occasion, the Head of Education Sector of Wahdah Islamiyah, Ir. Iskandar Kato, M.Sc. also delivered remarks. Ustadh Iskandar briefly explained Wahdah Islamiyah’s great concern for education. This includes making education the central theme of the Muktamar (congress) of Wahdah Islamiyah which was recently held and opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Head of STIBA Makassar, Akhmad Hanafi Dain Yunta, Lc., M.A., Ph.D. who also delivered his remarks on the occasion, provided an overview of STIBA Makassar. He also explained some of STIBA’s agendas in the future, including the plan to open registration for four study programs in the upcoming academic year and his intention to immediately open a postgraduate program.

  • Reviewing David Ausubel’s Theory, STIBA Lecturer Graduated from the Doctoral Program of the Islamic University of Medina with the Summa Cum Laude predicate

Reviewing David Ausubel’s Theory, STIBA Lecturer Graduated from the Doctoral Program of the Islamic University of Medina with the Summa Cum Laude predicate

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – As the Makassar College of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (STIBA) grows older, the number of teaching staff and students has also increased. If at the beginning of its establishment, STIBA only had lecturers with bachelor degree educational qualifications, now there are dozens of lecturers who are postgraduate. Even recently, with the completion of Dr. Ustaz Rustam Ibrahim M. Qashim Kolli and Ustaz Dr. Harwis from the doctoral level, STIBA now has 10 lecturers with doctoral qualifications.

Dr. Ustaz Rustam Kolli on Thursday (28/01/2021) reached the title summa cum laude from the Doctoral Program of the Islamic University of Madinah with the Concentration of Arabic. Ustaz Rustam wrote a dissertation entitled برنامج قائم على المنظمات التمهيدية الاليكترونية لتنمية الاداء القرائي والكتابي لدى متعلمي اللغة العربية

This title in Indonesian means a program to improve reading and writing skills for non-Arabic speakers using electronic introductions. The kitabah referred to in this title is not imla ‘, but ta’birul kitabi, composing insya’ and so on.

The result of this dissertation is the student book and the arguments for teacher which have been compiled by Ustaz Rustam. In that book, Ustaz Rustam compiles steps and strategies in teaching based on David Ausubel’s theory in five stages.

David Ausubel is an education and psychology expert who is famous for his theory of Meaningful Learning or in Arabic at-Ta’allum bil Ma’na. This means that a learning process will be more easily digested by students if the lesson is related to relevant personal experiences. In this case, the teacher only provides an introduction to further reinforce what the students already know.

According to Ustaz Rustam, the application of this theory is already in the Al-Qur’an and the hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam. So basically this theory is ضالة المؤمن (the lost valuables of believers).

This alumnus of the STIBA Makassar Language Preparation Program mentioned one example each from the Al-Qur’an and hadith. When Allah explained how humans will be resurrected in the afterlife, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala invites us to look at the earth, what if it is dry. Then Allah sent rain water and the grass grew. Allah closed the verse with “wakadzalika tukhrajun”, meaning that is how you will be resurrected.

An example from the hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam, when he asked his friends, how would you respond if in front of the house of one of you there is a river that flows, then he bathes in the river every day five times a day, is there any dirt left in your house? his body? The companions answered that there was none, so the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said that was prayer.

Another method that is also in accordance with this theory is a question that makes students search for answers. As the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam asked his friends, “Do you know who are the people who are bankrupt?” So the friends answered according to what they understood that bankrupt people were those who did not have money and possessions. The Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- then explained the true meaning he wanted to convey that there is something bigger and heavier than that, namely a person who is bankrupt in the hereafter.

Open Annual Work Conference XV, Chairman of STIBA Reveals Four Gifts of Allah for his Institution

(STIBA.ac.id) Makassar – Chairman of STIBA Makassar, Dr. Ahmad Hanafi, Lc., M.A. expressed his gratitude when opening the XV STIBA Makassar Annual Work Conference, Wednesday, Friday 1 late 1442 H (16/12/2020).

At least, Ustaz Ahmad mentioned four things which are God’s gifts and should be thanked by all STIBA managers.

“The first thing we need to be grateful for is our achievement for one year. It is not an easy thing to go through a year with the many problems we face. We produce a lot. This is all because of the guidance from Allah. Allah has given us the strength to be involved in this struggle. Not because we are proficient, not because we have participated in this and that training, “said Ustaz Ahmad in front of the XV Annual Musker participants which took place at the Umm Salamah Building, STIBA Girls Campus.

The ability of managers to make adjustments during the pandemic is also a blessing, which according to Ustaz Ahmad should be grateful.

“How can we bring this institution to remain on the track, not deviating from the rules related to the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education,” he said.

In addition to the big agendas that were launched for one year that could run well, another blessing that was also expressed by the chairman of the STIBA was health benefits.

“Since the pandemic until today, all managers of STIBA Makassar are still blessed with health by Allah,” said Ustaz Ahmad.

The Annual Work Conference which lasts for three days discusses accountability reports and work program designs from all sectors and centers under the direct coordination of the Chairperson of STIBA Makassar.

  • Two Lecturers of STIBA Makassar Represent Indonesia in the International Conference on Bela Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam

Two Lecturers of STIBA Makassar Represent Indonesia in the International Conference on Bela Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam

Ustaz Muhammad Ikhwan Djalil, Lc., M.H.I., M.A. and Ustaz Harman Tajang, Lc., M.H.I. representing Indonesian scholars in the International Conference of Islamic Nation Scholars to Support the Prophet ﷺ, Sunday (1/11/2020).

The two STIBA Makassar lecturers were participants as well as speakers in the activities organized by the Jordan Ulama and Scholars Association. This International Conference event took place in Jordan, at 19.00 local time.

The implementation of the International Conference of Islamic Nation Scholars to Support the Prophet ﷺ was motivated by the recent hot international issues. French President Emmanuel Macron is now in the spotlight after his statements insulting Islam. Not only that, he was also criticized for defending the republishing of the caricature of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo from France. Of course, many countries, especially Muslim-majority countries, have protested and boycotted the French State.

The event, which was held via the zoom application, began with the recitation of the holy verses of the Al-Qur’an by Sheikh Maarouf Rashad Al-Sharif and remarks from the Professor of Hadith Al-Sharif and Science at the University of Jordan as well as the Chairperson of the Association of Jordan Scholars and Scholars, Dr. Abdul Karim.

This International Conference event is divided into two sessions. The first session starts at 19.20 to 20.30 local time presenting speakers from various countries such as Ustaz Harman Tajang (Indonesia), Dr. Akramah Sabri (Palestine), Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saratawi (Jordan), Dr. Bilal Ibacan (Turkey), Dr. Salman Al-Diaa (Palestine), Dr. Amjad Qorsha (Canada), Dr. Hassan Abbas (Tunisia), Dr. Mohamed Yasri (Egypt), Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Mutairi (Kuwait), Sheikh Mohammed bin Ibrahim (France), Dr. Hamdia Al-Jurani (Iraq), Dr. Najwa El-Masry (Lebanon) and Dr. Mohammed Aldo (Mauritania).

When given the opportunity to speak, Ustaz Harman Tajang said that things like this (insulting the Prophet) are not new as Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has mentioned in the Qur’an and the Prophet ﷺ has undergone various kinds of insults, ridicule and reproach. In the end Allah glorified His Prophet and insulted those who mocked him.

“This shows that the Jews and Christians will not be happy until we follow them. Of course, things like this also happen today until the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, Allah will help His Prophet, “he continued.

He continued that among the positives of this incident, it must be considered that this shows the growing development of Islam, especially in western countries, so that it makes them even more disturbed, but Allah’s religion will always be helped as He promised.

“Another wisdom from this incident is to make people more curious about the person of the Prophet, so they want to learn about it. This also builds awareness to learn more about the history of the Prophet, in which there are guidance in all aspects of life to be practiced later, “the Secretary of the Wahdah Islamiyah Sharia Council concluded.

The second session started at 20:35 local time by presenting speakers including the Chairman of the Central Syuro Wahdah Islamiyah Council Ustaz Muhammad Ikhwan Jalil (Indonesia), Dr. Adnan Umama (Lebanon), Sheikh Rodrigo Rodriguez (Brazil), Sheikh Moez bin Al-Habib Belhassen (France), Dr. Najwa Shukani (Palestine), Dr. Mahran Maher Othman (Sudan) and Sheikh Mohamed Dinger (France).

In his presentation, Ustaz Ikhwan delivered greetings from two hundreds of millions of Indonesian Muslims who every day send salawat and greetings to the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam.

Regarding the harassment of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam, according to Ustaz Ikhwan, the perpetrator is like a sweeper who wants to fill the sky with dust, but the dust does not cover except himself.

Ustaz also quoted the verse, “Surely those who hurt Allah and His Messenger, Allah will curse them in this world and in the hereafter, and Allah prepares for them a humiliating torment.” (Surah Al-Ahzab: 57).

The chairman of the Syuro Wahdah Islamiyah Council also expressed his support for the boycott of French products.
